Someone recently brought to my attention the fact that I haven't posted anything on here in a while. I have been pretty slack with my art lately. I've started more than a few things, but haven't finished any of them. I did however, find something to post...

My folks recently started a "memory wall" (something old people do I guess,) and I saw my baby picture. I thought I'd share it with the world!

I've been seeing this amazing chick for the past little while. She's been everywhere... She said she's even seen the Mona Lisa in The Louvre!

I told her about the Dadaist artist Marcel Duchamp
who took a postcard of the Mona Lisa, drew a moustache on it, called it L.H.O.O.Q. and used it as one of his "readymades."

I did this up and gave it to her on our last date.

Anyone want to join a sketchblog? I've seen a few around, so I thought I'd start one up and try to get my friends to join. I figure it's a good way to keep drawing when you're feeling uninspired or can't think of anything to draw.

We could all make suggestions for a theme and then draw one out of a hat every week. Anyone interested?

After doing a characturature of myself I thought I'd try someone else. Not something that I'm great at yet, but I'd love to get better. This guy commented on my photoblog today. maybe someday I'll be this good.

So now that I've been unemployed for a while, I guess I have no excuse for not updating my blog. I also have nothing interesting to say.
The last contract I was on was a doozy, It was awesome to get into classical style animation again, but I worked all the time. In doing so there was a lot of things around the house that needed to be done, that got pushed aside.
Now, I've got to try to get 8 months worth of things from the "honey-do-list" done while revamping/updating my website, and trying to find a job in this economic climate. Sigh, wish me luck.
I'm going to try my hardest to get at least one of the things on my bucket list going by posting on my photo blog every day, or at least having a photo from everyday to post.

A while ago my friend Tom Collins decided to make a bucket list. He's making a list of 100 things he'd like to do before he dies. Some easy to accomplish (#9), some not (#6, just kidding Tom.) I think it's a great way to encourage yourself to get off your butt and actually do something, and me being the lazy ass that I am, could use something like that. So here we are. We've been in St. Paul for a few weeks now, and we are finally starting to get settled.

The flight wasn't half as bad as I thought it was going to be . . . For me anyways. Robin was white knuckled the whole time. When the flight attendants weren't walking by I was holding her hand across the isle. I got to watch The Ballad of Ricky-Bobby. It was hilarious.

After about 12 hours, we sat down on the couch in out hotel room in Edmonton, and let the cats out to finally stretch their poor little legs (they slept almost the whole way, I was surprised.)

Driving in to Edmonton at night was awesome! Halifax seems so small now. I wish we could have stuck around for a bit to see some of it, but it was soon after we woke up, that we were on the road again.

We picked up the car just outside of the city and headed to St. Paul. The landscape reminded us of rural Nova Scotia except the trees were more sparse.

The closer we got to St. Paul however, the more foreign it looked. I was probly just the anticipation of moving to somewhere we didn't want to be that made it look that way.

We got into town and found our Landlord (he's really nice, so far he's probly the best landlord we've ever had,) then we were off to our new apartment. Now this apartment is not what we're used to. It was built onto the back of a bungalow about a million years ago, and it looks like a place that Mike Holmes wouldn't even touch.

There were little kitty holes in a lot of the walls, meaning there were tunnels from one room to another. So the cats went back into their cat carriers until I patched them up. The bathroom walls are half wallpaper from the 60's and half vinyl flooring, and there are very few electrical outlets (we have a lot of gizmos that we need to be plugged in.) You know what though? We really can't complain. We are paying half the rent we were paying in Halifax and we plan on moving into a house in the spring/summer, so the money we're saving is going towards our down-payment.

Anyway, this is running a little long, so I guess I'll leave it at that. Below are some of the photos we took before and along our trip to St. Paul. My photoshop skills aren't what they used to be, so I couldn't get them to where I wanted. They're also pretty small, but I can't justify buying a better camera before I learn how to use the one we have.

A little update: We rented the apt. (which is why I took down the pics/posts), and we found a place in St. Paul. It allows cats, and is very ugly, I'll post some pics when we get up there. Right now we're living at Robin's folks place, which has been taxing on all parties, and counting down the days till the 27th.

We hope to have a little going away party at Maxwells sometime through the week. Nothing big, got lots of werk to do before we leave, just some eats and a few drinks.

So we're having a little problem finding a place in St. Paul (no big surprise there.) We thought we had a place all set up, but they don't allow cats. It's supposed to be the "nicest, cleanest place in town" but I don't think I could live with having to get rid of anymore animals. And being stuck in a crappy apartment without so much as a plant to talk to, will give a touch of the space maddness.

Also, if anyone is looking for new digs, we gotta find somone to take our apartment. It's a really nice 2 bed, 2 bath condo, with a dishwasher, and laundry in unit. I think it's about 1100 square ft and has a nice sized balcony. Goes for $910 a month, that's $455 each for 2 people. It's on Ochterloney St. and about a 10/15 min walk to the ferry terminal. Ya can't beat it!

So we're moving to St. Paul, Alberta on the 27th of December. I wanted to tell everyone in person but I don't think that's gonna be possible. Here's the skinny:

Robin applied for a job with the government of Alberta in a small town two hours North-East of Edmonton. Robin will be making more there than both of us combined here in Nova Scotia, so financially, we can't let this opportunity pass us by. I on the other hand will not be making more than both of us combined. There are no animation studios in the small town of 5000, so I'll be looking for a lot of freelance work. If any one needs some help on a project or two, drop me a line.

At least it'll be an adventure, and I'll hopefully have a lot of stuff to put on my blog. I'll keep everyone informed of all the exciting happenings in St. Paul, Alberta.

I'm gonna miss everybody.

My sister just forwarded me this Email, and I wanted to pass it on.

"The Greyhound rescue organization DESPERATELY (and I can’t stress enough how really desperate we are right now, hence this posting J) needs volunteers to help out with the rescued dogs that are currently living at the kennel waiting for forever homes and we are also looking for people who would be willing to foster a dog.

Volunteering – Anyone can volunteer, so if you have a teenage son or daughter that loves dogs this would be perfect for them. Volunteers at the kennel are needed for walking the dogs, general clean up, brushing-caring for the dogs, playing with them, etc. We currently have 12 dogs needing homes that are living at the kennel. As you can imagine, one person can only walk three dogs max at one time so we need as many people as we can get. If you or anyone you know maybe interested in help us out, whether it be an hour or 10 hours, once or for the next couple of months, please let me know. The race track we get the dogs from wants us to rescue another twenty dogs next month but unless we get more volunteers we won’t be able to help them. The kennel is located in Musquodoboit Harbour on West Petpeswick Road.

I should mention that we are aware of the fact that many people do not volunteer because of the location and seeing as the cost of gas is pretty high, many just are not willing. Where we are so desperate we are offering to refund people 0.39 a km in travel expenses in order to get more volunteers.

Fostering – There is no obligation whatsoever to keep a dog that you are fostering. Greyhounds are very calm, gentle dogs that don’t need a lot of exercise and love to cuddle with people. All Greys are tested when they arrive for their temperament around children and other animals so if you have a child or another animal we can arrange to have a Grey that will fit right in. They are house trained and help is always available from the rescue group if you need it. These dogs have lived their life at the track in crates only being let out three times a day for a bathroom break and once every three days for a run around the track. They are used to crates and they are used to being by themselves for long periods of time; therefore, they make a great pet for anyone who works. Fostering is the perfect option for a family considering getting a dog but they are not 100% sure if they are ready for that commitment. By fostering you can give it a trial run and if it doesn’t work out you simply give the dog back.

Okay, so I didn't post a robit yesterday, I was just too exhausted to come up with anything. And I didn't post one on Friday either, but that's 'cause I took a lil' vacation. Robin had to go up to Kentville on Friday for a lawyer thing, so I tagged along. We met some friends up there and went on winery and cheese house tours all weekend. It was awesome! Sometimes it kinda feels like I'm becoming some hoity-toity Wine and Cheese guy, but then I look down and see that I'm wearing my ratty Transformers shirt, and I feel better.

Does anyone remember the Transformer Pretenders? They were these human looking guys in tecno-armour. When you cracked 'em open they had a Transformer inside. I remember thinking "This is aswome! They can just walk around like people, and when the Decepticons started some shit, they could jump out and kick some butt!" I figured they could just grow or shrink like Megatron does (how the hell else could Starscream fire him in gun mode?) But when I picked up a comic with the Pretenders in it, they were full sized Transformers! What the hell was that! "Look mommy, is that a giant robot?" "No honey it's okay, that's just a giant man. Now it's not polite to stare, so just drink your sippy and go play."

I love digital cameras. You can shoot as much as you want and you don't have to pay for processing before you see how many you have to just throw out.

Here's a few pics I took while waiting for the ferry over in Dartmouth one day. I just wanted to take some texture photos. I might try to clean 'em up once I get some spare time.

Mike's Lemon Iced Tea Recipe

So I haven't had a lot of time to scan anything let alone post, so here's my Lemon Iced Tea recipe. It's a work in progress, I am going to try to reduce the size of the recipe and kick up the flavour a bit, it is a lot of Ice Tea.

Add in 2 orange pekoe tea bags (I use the round ones) and 1 green tea bag to 6 cups of boiling water.
Turn heat down, let steep for 30 min.
Turn off heat, let sit till cool.
Put into large container (or 2 this makes a lot of tea.)
Cut 1 large lemon into slices, put into container.
Add 6 cups of water.
Add Honey to taste (it can take a lot.)
Let sit over night.
Enjoy.

Had to add that lil' "enjoy" thing, I think you have to at the end of a recipe, it's a rule.

Ever since I was a kid I loved robots. or anything science-fictiony. One day I'd love to work on a show where all the characters are robots. Come to think of it, I'd love to work in a place where all the workers were robots I'd be the only fleshbag there, the daleks would keep shouting "you will be exterminated! EXTERMINATED!" Me an Bubblebee would greet each other in the morning "workin' hard?" "you know me, hardly workin'." "Ha ha ha!" we would both laugh.

So when I said weekly, I meant I wanted to actually post some artwork, or at least something interesting. But then I got a virus on my home computer . . . again.
I didn't really know I had one 'till my computer started acting up. Then, when I looked in my scan history, it turns out I was infected with a Trojan about 2 months ago. The fuggin thing couldn't be deleted or quarantined or anything. Great. It then disabled my virus scan and is somehow stopping me from downloading another one.
When I'm at work, I like to concentrate on actually working, so I don't really have time to doodle or think of anything interesting to write. I guess untill I get my computer fixed, all you get is another down on his luck story.

I really hate computers sometimes, maybe I should just stay away from risky websites . . . nah

Decided to get some asparagus last night. Mmmmm, delicious.
One side effect I wasn't prepared for the severity of was the stench of my urine afterwards. Jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick! I was standing there trying to figure out if I should finish, or stop right there and vomit. I was wishing there was some way for me to leave the room. Next time I eat asparagus, I'm wearing a gas mask to the toilet.
